Naturopathic Education, Training & Qualifications

Simon Fraser University

Naturopathic students must complete at least 3 years at a recognized university, and fulfill certain science requirements before they are accepted into the 4-year naturopathic program. The full-time program includes 3 years of classroom studies and hands-on training (totalling over 4,200 hours), and 12 months of internship.

Like medical doctors, naturopaths are trained extensively in health assessment, history taking, physical examination, diagnosis and prevention. In addition to the standard medical training, naturopaths also learn Chinese diagnostic techniques, and go much further in depth to find out exactly how you are being affected by your illness.

After graduation, there are 5 days of rigorous Naturopathic Licensing Examinations (NPLEx) administered by both the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners (NABNE), and the province/state that the naturopath wishes to practice in. Licenses must be updated yearly, and the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapies - Naturopathy (BDDT-N) regulates registered naturopaths in Ontario. Our naturopath is licensed Naturopath in Toronto, and a member of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors, whose role is to promote awareness of the naturopathic profession and increase public awareness of how naturopathic health care can help improve lives.
